Pingliangtai Ancient City Ruins

Ancient City Site at Pingliangtai are located in the southwest of Dazhuzhuang Village, Dalian Township, Huaiyang District, Zhoukou, Henan province, which is one of the earliest confirmed prehistoric city sites in China. Seen from a panoramic view, the site take a unique square shape with an area of 5 hectares.
In the Ancient City Site at Pingliangtai, the main road connects the south gate and the north gate and serves as a central axis, separating the city into two equal parts. On the east and west sides of the axis, there are rows of well-planned houses laid out. The pottery pipes and crisscrossed drainage ditches in the city together form China’s earliest and most complete urban drainage system. The Ancient City Site at Pingliangtai possess good planning, and its design of square layout, axial symmetry, and pursuit of order have become the basic ideas and principles for urban construction planning in China, which represents a milestone of urban development throughout the history.
