The Qicheng Site is located near the intersection of Gucheng Road and Jingkai Avenue in Hualong District, Puyang City, Henan Province, which was listed as one of the fourth batch of the Key Historical and Cultural Sites under National-level Protection.
As one of the most representative in northern Henan Province, the site has relatively rich cultural significance and well-preserved city ruins. Cultural remains and relics from various periods including Peiligang, Yangshao, Longshan, the Eastern Zhou Dynasty, the Han Dynasty, and the Northern Song Dynasty were earthed at the site. In the early Longshan period, ring trenches have been found at the site’s location covering an area of 17 hectares. During the middle and late Longshan period, city walls appeared at the edges of the settlement. Since then, during the Eastern Zhou Dynasty, the Han Dynasty, and the Northern Song Dynasty, the original city walls were repeatedly constructed or repaired for continued use.
The Qicheng Site of the Longshan period is the first and currently the only Longshan-period city site confirmed by archaeological excavation in Puyang area, which is of great importance and significance.
