Introduction to Yangshao Village Site

Yangshaocun Site is located on the south terrace of Yangshao Village, 5 kilometers north of Mianchi County, Sanmenxia City, Henan province. There are two streams on both the east and west sides of the site. The two streamsconverge at Liuguo Reservoir in the south and flow into the Jian River, covering an area of more than 300,000 square meters. In 1921, Yangshaocun Site was first excavated, where the first archaeological culture in China was found and named Yangshao Culture, marking the birth of modern archaeology in China.
The second and third excavations of the site were carried out in 1951 and 1980-1981 respectively. The fourth excavation was carried out in 2020-2021, where house sites, ditches, trenches, ash pits, tombs, and other relics, and unearthed relics including pottery, jade, stone artifacts, bone artifacts, ivory items, and so on were found. Multi-disciplinary research has brought about fruitful accomplishments, such as, the discovery of the silk residual traces, the obtainment of the evidence of brewing grain wine, the successful restorage of the appearance of Yangshao ancients and Longshan ancients, and the revelation of the genetic history of Neolithic people in the middle reaches of the Yellow River and their contributions to the Chinese nation. Yangshaocun National Archaeological Site Park has been completed and opened to the public.
