Henan Provincial Institute of Cultural Heritage and Archaeology Holds a Series of Public Archaeological Activities on the “Cultural and Natural Heritage Day”

The year of 2021 marks the centenary of Chinese archaeology, coinciding with the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China. At the historical intersection of the “Two Centenary Goals”, in order to fully implement General Secretary Xi Jinping’s instructions on “carrying forward the traditions and heritage from revolutionary times” and “knowing the history of and fostering love for the Party and the country”, to promote fine traditional Chinese culture, and to encourage more people to actively participate in the protection of historical and cultural heritage, Henan Provincial Institute of Cultural Heritage and Archaeology (hereinafter referred to as “the Institute”) held a series of public archaeological activities on June 12 for the “Cultural and Natural Heritage Day”.
This series of activities centered on the theme of “cultural relics reflecting the journey of a century”, combined with the actual situation, were held in the Institute, the Pingliangtai Site in Huaiyang District, the Shizhuang Site, the Baoanzhuang Site in Wuzhi County, the Jiucaiyuan Site in Dancheng County, the Mingzhu Site in Xicheng District, Luohe City, the Huangshan Site in Nanyang City as the key project of “Chinese Archaeology” project. The activities included expert lectures, volunteer participation, public interaction, and study tours.

The protection of cultural heritage is a prerequisite for archaeological research, which in turn serves as the academic basis for the rational utilization of cultural heritage. Archaeology is an indispensable part of the understanding of history, and archaeological work extends the axis of history, enhances historical credibility, enriches historical connotation and enlivens historical scenes. Through the series of activities carried out on the “Cultural and Natural Heritage Day”, the Institute once again highlighted the position and significance of Henan Province in the origin and early development stage of Chinese civilization, allowing people to experience the brilliance and profoundness of Chinese civilization.
